The Journal is a student-created annual publication for the Leeds University Union Mountaineering Society, dating back to 1956. I was given the opportunity to design and edit 4 articles for the Volume. IV publication.
Process
Before designing anything, I read through each article multiple times and did a deep exploration of what images were available. After fully understanding each story, I selected and edited the images to fit what was written and highlight certain visuals or themes present in the article.
The final stage was laying out the text and imagery. I really enjoyed moving around the different elements to make the story engaging and visually striking, while also making it easy to follow and understand.
Outcome
The Journal Volume. IV was released at a launch party in a local climbing gym, where members of the society and others could come along to pick up a copy.
Being part of this project was a delightful experience, and I really enjoyed engaging with each article to present the stories in the best way possible.
